Psalm 34:4
“I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”
Suggested Scripture reading – Psalm 34:1-22
The story is told of a frightening event that took place somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains about 80 years ago. It was a cold fall that year in the mountains. The snow had not yet fallen but that day the air had become bitterly cold. A young mother and her two young children had taken the path from their home through the woods and across a valley to the settlement on the other side. On the return trip the three-year-old son had slipped away from her and had become lost in the deep woods. The mother and sister called to him repeatedly and looked frantically for him. She was near panic as she thought of the many dangers that were in those woods for a small boy. Finally, in the gathering dusk she, in despair sent the older child to get help. Shortly, a search party was formed and the men began to comb the woods. For hours they searched until they were cold and exhausted. They returned to a warm nearby cabin and decided to continue the search at dawn. As they warmed themselves in the comfortable cabin they heard a sound being carried on the cold night air. It was the voice of the mother calling out the boy’s name. The mother had never stopped searching. That sound chastened the hearts of the men. One by one they returned to the dark of the woods and resumed the search. Finally, in the deep of the night they came upon the mother sitting with her back against a tree. In her arms was the child sleeping and safe. She had heard his weak cry responding to her calling his name. He was cold, weary and hungry but happy to be held in the arms of his mother, the mother who never gave up looking for him.
In Psalm 34 David said, “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” (vs. 4) He sought the Lord, not realizing that the Father had been seeking him all the time. Maybe you have wandered away from what you know be right. You have lost your way and have become spiritually cold, world-weary and in need of the Father’s warm embrace. Simply call out to Him in prayer. Seek the Lord and He will find you. He has known where you have been all along.
Seek Him and let Him deliver you from all your fears.
Isaiah 55: 6-7
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
