“Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
Suggested Scripture reading – Luke 12:16 – 34
It’s fun being in the second grade. You get to learn a lot of new stuff and there is a lot of time to play. This particular day, however, Ronnie was thinking deep thoughts. The teacher told them that they needed to bring in some money for a special field trip coming up soon. Ronnie was perplexed because he did not have the $10.00 that the teacher told them bring. He was thinking and thinking, “Where will I ever get that much money?” He did not have a job and he had nothing to sell. He did not even know where he would sell it if he had something to sell. When he got home he was really worried. He shared his worry with his mom. “Mom, where am I ever gonna get ten whole dollars?” She smiled because she knew what her independent son was thinking and she knew what she would tell him. “Ronnie, who buys your food and pays for the clothes that you wear to school?” She asked. “Why, you and Dad.” “That is correct. We make sure that you have what you need every day. Things like food, clothes, a place to sleep that is warm and safe and a home to enjoy. That is our privilege as your parents. We love providing the things you need. Why did you think that you would have to pay for your field trip?” Mom asked. “I don’t know.” Ronnie replied. “My teacher said that we should bring it and I just thought I had to get it myself.”
Mom reached up and brought her Bible down from the shelf. “Here, let me read something to you that the Lord Jesus taught me. It goes along with what we are talking about.” “OK.” Ronnie said intrigued. “What could she want to read from the Bible that could possibly relate to him and this situation?” He wondered. Mom opened up the Bible, flipped passed a few pages and soon stopped at a passage in the book of Luke. “Here we are, Luke 12:30 – 32. ‘Your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things. But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Mom looked at Ronnie and began to speak. “When I was younger I thought I had to do everything for myself. It was a point of pride but I soon realized that there were many things that I could never do. I had to rely on my Heavenly Father to provide for me. Jesus is telling His disciples here that they should not be afraid or to worry about the basic things that they would need to live. When He says ‘fear not’ here He reminds them that He will provide all they need. Ronny, you do not need to worry about the things that you need because Dad and I will make sure you will have them. In the same way The Lord Jesus tells us not to worry because he wants to give us all that we will ever need. When He said, ‘Fear not’ He was pointing out that ‘it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.’ That is, our Heavenly Father takes pleasure in providing for His children just like Dad and I love to provide for you.”
Ronnie looked pleased. “I sure am glad to hear that. I don’t know what I would do without you and Dad. Cause I’m hungry!” With a laugh Mom said, “OK, let’s go get a sandwich!”
Child of God, how often do we worry and doubt the provision of the Father? He loves providing for His children.
Fear Not, It is the Father’s Good pleasure to give you all things.
Romans 8:32
“He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
