“And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel.” Joshua 11:6
Suggested Scriptural reading Joshua 11
The man and his wife were at their wits end. Their son was in trouble with the law, again. Despite their advice and his promises, he had made another very poor choice. That news came at about the same time that they learned about their car breaking down. It is going to require extensive, costly repair. The latest blow, however, just came by way of a phone call from the doctor. Dad was going to need surgery. It was all just too much! They were completely overwhelmed!
Joshua was also in an overwhelming situation in Joshua 11. He and his army had fought one enemy after another and now a very large army was massed against him. Scripture describes this army in verse 4, “And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude with horses and chariots very many.” Joshua must have felt overwhelmed with all the difficulties that were before him. Yet, in this dark moment God came to him with encouragement. “And the LORD said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel.” (Joshua 11:6) Joshua found courage from the words the Lord said to him. “I will deliver them up all slain.” God would fight the battle!
That dark night, when the man and his wife were so overwhelmed with difficulties, they heard the voice of the Heavenly Father speak to their hearts, “Be not afraid of them, . . . I will deliver them up.” When we give our burdens to the Lord, God is please to demonstrate His love and concern for us. When we are overwhelmed and can do no more; that is when He enters our lives. The Father said to the Apostle Paul, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9) Life will overwhelm you, but in those times, Child of God, remember, when you are weak in our own strength then are you strong through the one who loves you. He will undertake for you. God said,
“Be not afraid because of them: for tomorrow about this time will I deliver them up”
