Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones.
And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them. Gen. 50:21
The knock at the door that evening was unexpected. The missionary answered the door and with joy recognized the face of a friend. He was surprised because he knew the friend was getting ready to leave the country for a long period of time. The friend explained that in their preparation to leave they realized that they had an abundance of food that would not keep while they were gone. He wanted to offer the missionary the food for his family to enjoy. After a time of fellowship and prayer the friend left the food and later took his journey. What he did not know was that the missionary’s support for that month had been cut short and their food budget was in real trouble. Trouble that is, until the Lord put it on the heart of His child to share the food with the missionary who had been praying for God’s supply.
I imagine Jacob was also praying a similar prayer as they journeyed to Egypt in Genesis 50. The famine was very severe all over that part of the world. How could Egypt possibly support his large family? The answer is the context of verse 21. Joseph, the second most powerful man in Egypt, had been placed in that position for the very purpose of saving Jacob (Israel) and his family from starvation. ”God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” (Gen. 50:20)
The missionary learned that the Heavenly Father knew their need. Our Father knows our need and he says, “fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones.” (Gen. 50:21)
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.”
