The doctor’s face was grim and his report was even grimmer. The disease had spread. All the medicines had been taken. All the procedures had been administered and yet the disease was back. The doctors would do all they could to help treat threat disease but, in reality, there was only so much they could do. The family now was faced with a situation over which there was no control. They could not help or heal. All they could do was watch and wait. Their backs were against the wall.
In Exodus chapter 14, Moses and the Children of Israel’s backs were against the wall with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. They could go no further. There were 600 chosen chariots of Pharaoh bearing down on them. The people were near panic when they came to Moses to complain. His words to them were, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” (Exodus 14:13) Moses could not change the circumstances. The people were powerless to deal with their danger. Truly, they were backed into a corner where all they could do was to wait for God and see what He would do. We know the rest of the story. God intervened and divided the sea. The people walked across on dry ground. The walls of water that were instruments of God’s judgment on Pharaoh’s chariots became protection and deliverance for His people.
Truth is, however, God does not always see fit to deliver His child in such a dramatic way. At those times we must, “stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD.” At times we must endure as good soldiers the hardships that come to us. In all things, however, He bids us to “Fear not.” He never leaves us to our own devices. He sees us through and gives peace in our hearts when we trust. Whether He sees fit to heal and deliver or to strengthen and support, He always is there. (Hebrews 13:5) Let’s trust Him and wait for His salvation.
